Library

East Waikiki Primary School promotes a culture of literacy that provides opportunities for students to broaden their knowledge with a large range of texts to choose from.

Our wonderful Library provides curriculum-based resources and materials for staff and students that are available in a variety of different formats. From Year 3 onwards our students use the Literacy Pro Reading and Comprehension Program. Students are tested once per term to acquire a Lexile score, using this score they can then choose books that are best suited to their reading abilities and comprehension levels.

We strive to create a welcoming and user-friendly environment that is an oasis within the school. At lunchtime, the Library becomes a Chill Out Zone for students to engage in a fun and relaxed time with their friends, playing board games, drawing or reading.

The Library iPads are available to do LitPro quizzes during library open times. Students are encouraged to borrow in their class borrowing times as well as open times. The Library is open Monday to Thursday during school times including before and after school.

Our Library also coordinates our school’s Book Week Celebrations, annual Scholastic Book Fair, National Simultaneous Story Time Program and Book Club.

If you would like to help during our annual Book Week and our Book Fair, please contact me at school. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

SCHOLASTIC BOOKCLUB – For decades, Scholastic has been proudly bringing adventure and the unrivalled enjoyment of reading to multiple generations of Australian families via Book Club. Each Issue of Book Club contains specially curated, age-appropriate titles that have been carefully selected and levelled by a team of professional booklovers. Online versions of the catalogue are easily accessed.

With numerous studies finding that reading at home is a key factor in a child’s lifelong success, Book Club provides a fun and easy way of bringing books into a child’s home. It provides families with an affordable and convenient way to access the best in Australian and international children’s literature.

At East Waikiki book club orders are to be done online using the LOOP payment method.  No cash orders to school please. The students will need to be registered first and linked to our school, it is easy to set up. There is an app in Google Play and the Apple App store. Mrs Todd found this the easiest way to register and pay.
